Standing firm on her decision, Sandhya Mondal said her son’s death was a direct result of his own actions. She said the work her son had done brought him this punishment. She stated clearly that she would not take her son’s body, nor would she accept it, saying she would not bring his body home because he had not done anything good.
When asked further about what should happen to the remains, she remained resolute. She distanced herself entirely from her son’s actions, saying he had committed a terrible crime and had received his punishment for it. She told authorities they could do whatever needed to be done, even if that meant disposing of the body, and reiterated that she had no objection and would not bring it home.
According to police officials, Prabhas Mondal was killed in an encounter on Wednesday morning. The Baruipur Superintendent of Police stated that the incident took place during the reconstruction of the crime scene.
Police said that during this process, Mondal attempted to snatch a service weapon from an officer and opened fire at the police team present. In the retaliatory firing that followed, Mondal sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to the hospital, where medical authorities declared him dead, according to the SP.
The victim in the original case had gone missing on Saturday and was later found dead in a pond. This incident had already triggered significant outrage and protests in the local area before Mondal’s encounter took place.
Baruipur Police District stated that considerable progress had been made in the investigation. Two other individuals have been arrested so far in connection with the minor girl’s death.
Jadavpur MP Saayoni Ghosh had earlier announced that a Special Investigation Team had been formed to probe the case.
